The Urban Locavore Challenge

A few years ago I started challenging myself to eat in a healthier, more environmentally conscientious way, using locally grown, organic  food.  This is simple enough and I was surprised to find that its easier to eat healthy local organic food than I initially expected.

Recently I decided that I wanted to challenge myself further and make this goal about more than just the occasional or opportunistic choice to eat more sustainable and healthy food.  I wanted to challenge myself to put this goal into action and make it a consistent lifestyle: growing and producing food that’s not just healthy but also delicious, and to do my best to feed myself this way the whole year through.  The real challenge is the fact that I live in a small apartment in the heart of downtown Toronto, where there’s limited access to land for growing and the climate is too cold to grow much of anything for half the year.
